Whau Eid Festival Hosted by Whau Ethnic Collective
The Whau Ethnic Collective hosted a vibrant Eid Festival at the New Lynn Community Centre in Auckland. The event was attended by National Party MP Paulo Garcia, Auckland Councillor Kerrin Leoni, and Jessica Phuang, the Greater Auckland Police Ethnic Responsiveness Manager.
The festival featured lively cultural performances at the main venue, a bustling market area showcasing unique ethnic goods, and a food zone offering a wide variety of halal cuisines, providing Auckland’s Muslim community with a joyful space to celebrate Eid.
Eid marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of daytime fasting. As one of the most widely celebrated Muslim festivals worldwide, Eid holds deep significance. While many New Zealanders enjoy their Easter holidays during this time, Muslim residents are able to freely celebrate Eid, highlighting New Zealand’s multiculturalism and the nation’s spirit of inclusiveness.
