Epidemic is now in its third year of sweeping the world, and the severity of epidemic is directly affecting people’s livelihoods. It has led to a change in people’s enthusiasm for life, and their moods have turned gray, and their pace has had to slow down.
However, this has not affected in any way to keep facing life with a positive attitude and working hard. We always think about how to do more for this society, how to contribute to the change of the status quo, how to unite the Chinese community to burst out a strong force of Sylvia (Sylvia).
Yesterday evening, April 22nd, at the Northridge Country Lodge Northridge Village Estate on the North Shore, there was an exciting and morale-boosting scene. That’s when Sylvia and Jake Law co-hosted a campaign launch event to officially announce their upcoming candidacy for Albany Ward City Council!
Sylvia is a film and television producer. She has worked on many international film and television projects such as Magnolia liliflora Desr, The Big Boss and many more.
Sylvia has produced New Zealand’s first original spoken word musical “La Musical”, the web series “Sunny Day. There is Rain”, mtv “Jasmine Singing in New Zealand”, large scale public welfare art activity “Smile, China! and other projects.
In 2008, he joined the “New Zealand China Friendship Association” and served as the secretary general and vice president. Sylvia also works as a volunteer interpreter at Auckland Museum.
Jake is a teacher and has taught in New Zealand and China for many years. He speaks Chinese fluently and has a good understanding of Chinese culture.        The guests were mainly seniors from politics and foreigners from various fields. They included Jake’s grandfather, former Mayor of Rodney, John Law, and local supporters such as Upper Harbour District Councillor Nicholas Mayne and Hibiscus and Bays District Councillor Janet Fitzgerald.
Also in attendance were the Chinese elite, President Liu Yuxi of the New Zealand Starlight Cultural Association, Chairman Ren Zhongjie of Jimmy Construction and President Susan of the New Zealand Newspaper, who came to cheer on Sylvia and Jake, who will be running for election!as well as a New Zealand’s well known cultural branding market, creative marketing association, the creative strategy designer and cross cultural of Chu Dian. It is the very first content sharing platform in New Zealand, Da Zhi Xin App, co founder Joyce Liu.
During the meeting, Jake’s grandfather, former Mayor of Rodney, John Law, and representatives from local communities spoke. They talked about the importance and necessity of political participation. They presented their experiences and their hopes for the community. More than anything else, they cheered on the two young people running for office and called on more young people to participate in politics.
The whole scene was warm and enthusiastic, and the long-lost happy smiling faces were again present. This is a party that makes people’s blood boil and inspires them.
As a matter of fact, the Chinese generally do not ask about politics, and it has always been a shackle on the way of Chinese to enter politics. There are even Chinese who have given up even the right to vote in their hands, which has also contributed to the long-standing stereotype of Chinese in the local community.
I am glad that our Chinese compatriots have another member to participate in politics, and there will be another member of parliament who will speak up for Chinese.
That evening, New Zealand newspaper reporters Cao Zhengjia and Shen Ruilin interviewed Sylvia and Jake.
Sylvia said, “I hope we can deepen the understanding between the community and gain more respect for the Chinese and Asian communities. In order to achieve this goal, she is willing to be a bridge between the communities. I also hope that more people will step up and do what they can.
Jake, on the other hand, “hopes to strengthen the cooperation with other legislators and strengthen the relationship between legislators. He will follow in his grandfather’s footsteps and become a good politician, using his experience as a teacher to serve the community.
We sincerely hope that more Chinese will participate in politics, and we sincerely hope that they will be successful in the election! We look forward to their outstanding performance!
