On August 26, the Greater Bay Area (Nansha) International Communication Center held the “2026 Induction Ceremony for the Second Batch of Media Institutions and International Communication Salon.” Six media brands for international communication — the International Communication Center (TOUCH) of Guangdong Radio and Television, the International Communication Center (C-WAVE) of Guangzhou Broadcasting Network, the Nanling International Communication Center, the Global Hakka APP, Hong Kong’s Bauhinia Magazine, and Siam Associated Press Media Group— officially established their presence at the center. The number of resident institutions has now surpassed 60.
Eight veteran media professionals, including Lin Qingjian and Xu Bei, were appointed as “Nansha District International Communication Advisors.” Nansha district authorities expressed hope that all resident institutions would focus on Nansha’s practices in the Greater Bay Area in reform and opening-up, scientific and technological innovation, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and jointly foster international communication IPs with global influence.

Among the four domestic media outlets, GRT’s TOUCH has garnered over 3.86 million followers across its overseas account matrix, and its program Canton Today has been broadcast on television stations in six countries. The International Communication Center of Guangzhou Broadcasting Network operates more than 40 overseas social media accounts with a total following exceeding 10 million. The Shaoguan-based Nanling International Communication Center was established in May this year. Meizhou Radio and Television has taken the lead in establishing the “Global Hakka Culture Communication and Promotion Center,”which has built connections with overseas Hakka chambers of commerce and associations in more than 30 countries and regions. Of the two media outlets based outside the mainland, Hong Kong’s Bauhinia Magazine has distribution coverage across multiple countries, while Thailand’s Thai Associated Press will provide Thai-language translation and multi-platform broadcasting for Nansha news.

The Greater Bay Area (Nansha) International Communication Center was inaugurated in February 2023, attracting 32 institutions in its first batch, including Xinhua News Agency and Hong Kong’s TVB. It has now formed a coordinated communication framework spanning “province–municipality–district–Hong Kong and Macao–overseas.” In recent years, Nansha has successively organized more than ten media tours, including “Foreign Media See China” and “Nansha Through Global Eyes:2026 Summer Tour with International Students from China’s Top Universities” with content disseminated in more than 20 countries and regions overseas.Original productions include works such as “Nansha Greets the World” and “Durian Season at Nansha Port Area.” The center interviewed Hong Kong residents living locally and produced documentary short videos such as “Hong Kong Residents’ Life in Nansha” and “Hong Kong Residents Going North to Retire in Nansha.” During the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China in 2025, IOC President Kirsty Coventry and IOC Honorary President Thomas Bach personally visited the competition venues in Nansha.

Following the induction ceremony, a roundtable salon on “Paths and Visions for Local International Communication Empowering High-Quality Development of the Greater Bay Area” was held, A number of experts, scholars and veteran media professionals from China International Communications Group (CICG), Bauhinia Magazine (Hong Kong), Hong Kong Innovation Think Tank, Sun Yat-sen University and Guangdong Television (GDTV) engaged in a dialogue on the topic of international communications.
